  biography

Richard William Blanchard is a conceptual artist who was born and raised in New England and attended art school in Maine.  His original style draws from many influences ranging from expressionism to surrealism to abstract landscapes to Art Deco portraiture.  Richard's paintings, while seeming ethereal, are grounded in nature; often depicting the progress of man and its impact on the earth - invariably serving as symbols for environmental awareness.

For the past 23 years Richard has been known almost exclusively in the interior design world, involved in professional projects for high-end clientele in New York City, New England, and Southern California.  But since 2008 he has been building an outside audience to increase his visibility in the art community.  He has exhibited his work in small venues while most of his creative output is produced at Ashaloona Studios in Winthrop, Maine.  In addition, he is looking forward to also inhabiting a studio in the South End of Boston.  Richard currently divides his time between New England and Los Angeles.
